Kwagga tries too much for Struisiess
It was Struisiedag in Oudtshoorn when Hoërskool Outeniqua came to the ostrich capital of the world to play Hoërskool Oudtshoorn in an FNB Classic Clash and won 59-10.
The big win as expected.
Struisies started the match with enthusiasm and for the first 10 minutes kept the pressure on the Kwagga. After seven minutes fullback Corné Marais goaled a penalty and the home side led 3-0.
The Struisies could have doubled their lead but went for a try instead, but they lost the ball.
Then the Kwaggas came into their own and attacked mercilessly. They went blind from a scrum and right wing Clayton Kiewietz rounded off the movement with a try which JP Duvenage converted.
This try broke the dam wall and Outeniqua scored another three tries before half-time - two by the SA Schools lock Eduard Zandberg and one by tighthead Roux Swart.
The half-time score was 28-3.
After the break Kwaggas attacked again, testing the Struisies' defence which was strong at times, but the Kwaggas scored three more tries through centres Dandré Maritz and JP Duvenhage, flyhalf Manie Libbok and fullback Corné de Klerk.
But the Struisies came back with a beautiful try by eighthman Adriaan Coetzee, converted by Corné Marais.
In the last minute substitute flyhalf Keenan Tarentaal added to the scoring with the last try of the day.
The Kwaggas scored nine tries, seven of which JP Duvenage converted.
