Muir Start Season Well

Muir College hosted Cillié High School in their first fixture of the 2015 season.  The College 1st XV opened their account with a convincing 32-14 victory over Cillié, after leading 22-7 at the break.

Flyhalf Yomelela Keswa caught the defence on the wrong foot and put the first points on the scoreboard. Outside centre Luphelo Miggels kicked the conversion.  A lapse in concentration at ruck time saw Cillié's eighthman capitalise and cross the line.  Cillié's flyhalf converted to even the score-line.

Muir upped the pace of the game and ran in three tries to which Cillié had no answer.  The try scorers were left wing Sicelo Tole, inside centre Lunathi Nxele and right wing Royden Monaisa.  This saw the College 1st XV go into the break with a 22-7 score-line in their favour.

The second-half saw both sides make poor decisions and not use their opportunities because of poor handling and not sticking to structures.  Midway through the half the teams started to settle and a better game of rugby was enjoyed by the spectators.  Centre and captain Nxele “put his hand up” and ran in two tries to extend Muir’s lead.  Cillié responded with a converted try in the dying minutes of the game but the score-line was far in favour of the Muir team.

Lock Ancel Velkers had a stand-out game both in the tight and loose laying the foundation for many to play off.  Flank pairing of Bulelani Mangcaka and Sipelele Latola did sterling work in the loose phases to benefit the College side.
