Narrow margins at the Maties tournament

There were five matches played on Saturday, three on Danie Craven Stadium and two on the B Field.

This year the ten invited teams were Stellenbosch High from Western Province, Die Brandwag from Eastern Province and the other eight from the Boland - Worcester Gimnasium, New Orleans, Klein Nederburg, Groenberg, Augsburg, Overberg, Vredendal and Drostdy of Worcester.

In the two opening matches of the tournament New Orleans edge past Worcester Gim in a highly competitive match. The team from Paarl secured a narrow 8-6 victory over Worcester Gim. While home ground advantage counted for nothing as Groenberg trashed Stellenbosch High 46-5.

Augsburg secured a 29-27 victory over Overberg, and Vredendal refused to take the defeat as they put on a brave performance to beat Klein Nederburg 18-12.

What was dubbed the main match of the day at the Danie Craven Stadium, HTS Drostdy suffered a 10-19 defeat to a good Die Brandwag side.
