Oakdale Results, Day 1

In lively Riversdale over the mountain ion a sunny day was a lovely day to start the Oakdale Rugby Festival amongst the oak trees .

The major results of Day 1 saw the host team drub Voortrekker of Bethlehem 33-5 in the main game, Sentraal of Bloemfontein beat Hugenote of Wellington 35-20 and the young Bellville side give a good account of themselves before losing 15-19 to a much larger Kempton Park team.

The Bulle emphasised their dominance by running in five tries, two of them by speedy left wing JP Coetzee, to the one of their Eastern Free State opponents.

Bellville, largely comprising Under-17 players for whom senior age-group rugby is very much a learning experience, did well to restrict the accomplished Kempton Park unit to just three tries, while Hugenote deserve nothing but praise for their resilient display against a Sentraal team that has already claimed several major scalps this campaign.
