Old Dalian semis
There were four teams in the two Currie Cup semifinals this year, and an Old Dalian in each team.
The Sharks played the Blue Bulls. Springbok Keegan Daniel, captain of the Sharks was in the Dale 1st XV in 2002 and 2003, captain in 2003. Springbok Bjorn Basson was on the wing for the Blue Bulls. He was at Dale from 2003 to 2005.
In the other semifinal, the Golden Lions played Western Province. Springbok Bandise Maku played for the Golden Lions. He was in the Dale 1st XV from 2002 to 2004, captain in 2004. That means that Daniel, Basson and Maku were contemporaries.
In the Western Province side there was young hooker, Scarra Ntubeni who was in the Dale 1st XV in 2007 before moving up to King Edward in Johannesburg. Another Western Province Old Dalian was Nic Groom. He was at Dale Junior when his dad Chris taught there. When Chris went to Rondebosch Prep, Nick went to Rondebosch. Chris now teaches at Bishops Prep.
In addition Old Dalian Kaunda Ntunja who played Dale first team 1998 and captained it in 1999 and 2000, did the Xhosa commentary for Super Sport. He played for SA Schools for two years, captain in 2000.
