Paul Roos captain: Michael Meyer

Paul Roos captain Michael Meyer will be hoping to lead his charges to victory in a tough encounter against Grey College in Bloemfontein.

Paul Roos have come off second best against their opponents in recent time but Meyer is confident his team will rely on favourable results against Paarl Boys High and Paarl Gym to motivate the Stellenbosch learners to achieve a victory in Bloem.

The loose forward has represented WP at the Grant Khomo week as well as the Academy week and feels that playing in those tournaments has helped him improve as a player.

"Competing at provincial level was a good experience because you get to play with players from different schools and can learn from one another to improve your game," he said.

The 18-year-old expressed that being named of the first XV was a tremendous honour that comes with even more responsibility as he has had to put the team's needs before his own.

"To be captain of a big school like Paul Roos Gymnasium is a big honour but at the same time a massive responsibility. I take my job as captain very seriously and always put the team’s needs before my own," he added.

Eight of the current 22 players were in the team who played against Grey last year and will be hoping to transfer that experience to the rest of the team in order to finish their season off on a high.

Meyer expects an expansive game from the Bloem learners who will be well organised and stick to their gameplan for the duration of the match as they have strong ball carriers who gives them momentum.

The physical player has told his charges not to fear losing and has encouraged them to leave everything on the field one last time this season as their unity is unrivalled.
