Phakamani Maganga - Captain of Potch Boys High
According to their captain Phakamani Maganga Potchefstroom Boys High will focus on using their considerable pace to outgun their rivals HTS Potchefstrrom when the two sides meet in their FNB Classic Clash this weekend.
What Potch Boys High lack in size they make up for in speed, and Maganga told fnbclassicclashes.co.za that their strategy will be to move the bigger HTS Potch boys around as much as possible and then exploit the opportunities out wide as their opposition tire.
He said: "My side has a good mixture of youth and experience but we are not that big, so we will give the ball to the backline and see if we can make some breaks out there."
Maganga played on the right wing for the Leopards Craven Week side when he was in Grade 11 last year, but has shifted in a position to outside centre for Potch Boys High this year so that he can perform more of a playmaker's role, and the fast-stepping midfielder is hoping to make a big impression in what should be a fiercely-fought encounter this weekend.
Last year Potch Boys High held a 10-0 lead at half-time and neded up drawing the match 10-10. It is a result that still irritates Maganga, and he highlighted the need to play until the final whistle against HTS Potch on Saturday.
"We have been playing well this year but we have thrown away some big leads by relaxing at the end, so what we need against HTS is constant focus until the final whistle," he said.
Although all he can think about at the moment is putting one past HTS Potchefstroom, Maganga's goals include making the Craven Week team for a second year and then hopefully getting a bursary to NWU-Pukke as he would like to play Varsity Cup rugby once he leaves school.
