Pionier defend Pukke series trophy

The Pukke 16 series  is an initiative of the Potchefstroom University (Pukke) to give exposure to schools early in the season.

There are 16 schools who participate in this initiative. Some of the names are Delmas High School, Stoffberg High School, Bekker High School and  Wolmaransstad High School. 

Defending champions Pionier High School had a notable journey to the final.

They kicked off their campaign with a victory over Ferrum High School, beating them 28-0.

In the second game they faced Piet Retief High School, who were one of their tougher opponents.

The men from Vryheid had to work hard to come up victorious against a strong Piet Retief side, in the end Pionier won the nail biting second group game,14-10.

Pionier last group match was against Volkrust High School, even though Volkrust give it their best the champions came up strong, securing a semi-final with a score of 37-17.

The high scoring semifinal match between Pionier and Pretoria-Noord High School, ended with Pionier winning, 42-31.

Pionier secured the final against a Vryburg High School, who themselves are no stranger to the Pukke 16 league.

2014 Champions and 2015 runner-up Vryburg, have open their campaign against Schoonspruit High School, and have not  looked back ever since.

Playing in their third final Vryburg will want to redeem themselves this coming Saturday against the defending champions.
