Pretoria Boys remains Best of the West
Each year the festival has grown from strength to strength and it is always great to see both old and new faces at the event. This year saw eight Under-14 sides participating, while 12 first XVs were involved in great sport on the West Rand.
Once again, St George (Zimbabwe), Monument High, Roodepoort High and Dinamika High provided entertaining rugby that has become a feature over the years. As always, Jabulani Rugby Club ensured the spirit of the festival was kept at a high level.
For the second year in a row, the Pretoria Boys Invitation side won all three of their games, beating CBC Boksburg, Roodepoort High and Jabulani Rugby Club on the way to the final where they faced hosts Krugersdorp.
The hosts were narrowly beaten 12-18, giving the title of Best of the West to Pretoria Boys.
This year Linden High, Ermelo High - who stunned the crowd with their high skills level - and Hillcrest High (Zimbabwe) were welcomed as the newcomers.
One of the toughest matches and greatest contests took place between Linden High and Ermelo High. Ermelo were victorious after 60 minutes of tough rugby.
The Espirit de Corp for the weekend was handed to Ermelo High as they displayed true sportsmanship, both on and off the field.
