Queen's Meet Dale at Reunion
The King is William IV, the Queen his niece and successor Victoria.
The rivalry between Queen's and Dale is one of the keenest in South African Schools rugby. The two schools along with Selborne down in East London have dominated Border Schools rugby for years and years, going back to the 19th century. They are boys' schools with similar outlooks, founded long ago. Queen's is the oldest , founded in 1858, Dale next in 1861 and Selborne the youngest in 1872.
Queen's and Dale play twice a year, and it is always a great occasion, as it will be again this Saturday.
For the home team to win on its Reunion Day is very desirable, spurring Old Boys on to grand memories and the belief in the continued progress of the school they loved.
Results this Year
Dale have been doing better than Queen's so far this year. Both teams went to the prestigious Kearsney Festival where Dale played tougher opponents than Dale's did. Queen's lost all three of its matches while Dale beat HTS Middelburg and lost (26-25) to Drostdy.
In the first FNB Top 20 of 2017, Dale are ranked 15th while Queen's have missed out.
Not that this year's results in any way ensure victory or defeat on Saturday.
On the strength of performances at the Kearsney Festival, two players in the Dale team have been offered bursaries at the Sharks Academy - centre Siphamandla Matsinya and Aphelele Fassi who moves from fullback to flyhalf this week.
There are a few players back from the last match between the two schools - Ilano Smith, who has moved from inside centre to flyhalf and Gareth Heidtmann who has moved from prop to hooker for queens, and Fassi, Matsinya, eighthman Thandile Mpangeva and Mzingisi Bisholo who has moved from hooker to prop for Dale.
The 1st XV match kicks off at 15.30.
