U18 Sevens prepares


The South African Under-18 Sevens team is in the process of getting ready to take part in the African Youth Games in Gaberone, the capital of Botswana on 22-31 May 2014.


Marius Schoeman, the former Blitzbokke star and now the manger of the SA Sevens at the SA Sports Academy in Stellenbosch, has announced a group of players invited for possible selection. He is careful to say that it is not the final group as others can be added.


The players chosen are:


Blue Bulls: Eduan Keyter, Tiaan Schulian, PJ Toerein, Franco Naudé


Eastern Province: Luigy van Jaarsveld, Curwin Bosch


Free State: Michael Andrade, Alex Jonker, Llewellyn Hein


Griquas:  Gerhard Holtzhausen


KwaZulu Natal: Jacobus Coetzee, Morné Joubert, Xolisa Guma


Golden Lions: Willem Massyn


Pumas: Cyprian Ncomo


Valke: Marco Janse van Vuuren


Western Province: Adriaan Louw, Herschel Jantjies, Edwill van der Merwe, Edrich Venter, Keenan Abrahams, Grant Williams, Ivan Kunz, Wynand McGlachlyn


Several of the players have been to provincial weeks. Players who were at Craven Week are Eduan Kayser of Affies, PJ Toerien and Franco Naudé of Garsfontein, Luigy van Jaarsveld of Marlow, Gerhard Holtzhausen of Noord-Kaap, Jaco Coetzee and Morné Joubert of Glenwood, Herschel Jantjies who was the Paul Roos and Western Province scrumhalf, and Edwill van der Merwe of Paarl Boys' High.


Alex Jonker of Grey College was at the Academy Week and several were at the Grant Khomo Week -Curwin Bosch, the outstanding Grey PE fullback,  Leon Massyn of Monnas, Mike Andrade of Staatspresident Swart, Llewellyn Hein of HTS Louis Botha, Xolisa Guma of Swartland in the Boland, Marco Jansen van Rensburg of Transvalia, Eddie Venter of Paul Roos and Keenan Abrahams of Paarl Gim.
