U13: WP wins all Four
The last match, between Western Province and Eastern Province, ended for a relatively comfortable win for the boys from the Western Cape, the only team to win all four of its matches.
One wonders at the position of Border Country Districts at this tournament. They are the only country districts team and lost increasingly heavily. In their last match the Pumas beat them 106-0. In their four matches they had 337 points scored against them, scoring 12 themselves, an average of 84-3 per match. That is tough.
At the other end of the match-ups scale, there were two draws - Valke with KwaZulu-Natal and Boland with neighbours South Western Districts. There was a one-point win for the Leopards over the hosts and a two-point win for Border against Limpopo.
The Western Province Under-13 team got their match off to a flying start against Eastern Province as they retained possession and applied pressure on attack, which earned them two early tries. Eastern Province tried hard to make a breakthrough, but the Cape side’s solid defence held them out. Another well-timed try by Western Province before half-time extended their lead to 21-0.
Western Province's continued their fine form in the second half and did well to sneak through the gaps in the Eastern Province defence, which earned them another try to take a 28-0 lead. Eastern Province tightened up the defence as the game progressed, but while this proved to be effective in preventing Western Province from adding to their score, they were still unable to make their presence felt on attack.
