Westville's first victory over College

Match report

Westville of Durban beat Maritzburg 10-6 on Saturday.

The following match report is from College:

For the first time ever, College lost to Westville.

The game was a poor one, with neither side impressing, but Westville were full value for their win. They seemed willing simply to absorb the pressure from College, and did so very competently, but made little attempt to use the ball constructively themselves.

College, for their part, were singularly lacking in inspiration. Despite plenty of possession, they made no impression on a stout Westville defence and seldom even looked like scoring.

The match developed into a stalemate after half-time, played largely in midfield and with little imagination.

The only try came from some sloppy work at a ruck by College, near their own line. The ball popped out and Westville were quick to seize the opportunity to dive over.
