Wonderful Rugby at St Andrew's

The spirit between the boys was wonderful to see and the rugby remained tough and uncompromising.

The 1st XV played into the wind in the first half and put themselves under early pressure. The defence held firm until an awkward bounce of the ball resulted in a fortunate Selborne try. St Andrew’s bounced back strongly and scored a penalty of their own before Selborne scored another well worked try. St Andrew’s College finished the stronger of the two teams as the half drew to a close and the team went into half time at 14-3 to Selborne.

The second started much the same as the first and Selborne went straight onto the attack before scoring to extend their lead to 19-3. This seemed to spark the College side into action and for the first time they seemed to have Selborne under pressure through their attack. This resulted in two well worked tries for Matt More and suddenly the score was 19-17 and College had just a glimmer of hope. It was Selborne however who finished the stronger of the two sides and scored again just before the end in order to stretch the final margin of victory to 26-17.

Well done to all the boys on Saturday and especially to the good performances from our 3rds, 4ths, “Kouse” and 6th Teams as well as the 16Cs who all won their matches convincingly.
