SACS run away with Villager 7s
SACS had little difficulty in winning the disrupted 39th Villager Sevens at Brookside on Saturday, winning the final by a huge margin.
Saturday 8 September was a fantastic morning at Villager Rugby Club. The tournament had started on 31 August but had to be abandoned because the ground was flooded. It resumed on 8 September. The completion of the tournament kicked off at 10.00.
The weather was overcast but fine. A nice crowd turned out to support the boys through the Quarter -Finals, Semi-Finals and Final.
The first match was Bishops vs Table View but Bishops were unable to attend and so Table View got an automatic walk-through to the semi-finals Rondebosch played Jan Van Riebeeck and won 31-17. SACS played Temperance and won 31-0. And a very impressive Fish Hoek side beat Wynberg 29-19 in one of the most entertaining matches of the morning.
In the semi-finals, Rondebosch continued their winning streak, and beat Table View 43-0. Fish Hoek then came up against SACS and lost 24-0. The final would see Rondebosch play SACS
By this stage of the tournament, the stadium had filled up quite nicely with the spectators during the 15 minute break before the final.
SACS raced to a 47-5 victory in the 20-minute match, with an exceptionally classy display of rugby. Their man of the match was a very on-form Chad Moolman who was a force to be reckoned with, scoring tries and putting points on the board with his boot. Chad, is son of former provincial player and current Western Province Sevens and Under-21 Coach - Anton Moolman.
SACS's road to victory:
SACS vs Lagunya, 38-0
SACS vs Temperance, 31-0
SACS vs Fish Hoek, 24-0
SACS vs Rondebosch, 47-5
This is only the 3rd time that SACS have won the tournament. Previous wins were 1973, and 1998.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable morning., well supported under the circumstances.
