Big challenge for ill-disciplined Pumas

The Pumas' impressive Currie Cup run came to an abrupt end at the weekend and they are up against one of the competition's big guns next.

Griquas fullback Gouws Prinsloo kicked an impressive eight penalties to hand his side a 31-27 victory over the Pumas in K8imberley at the weekend.

It ended a run that saw the Pumas beat the Griquas (in Nelspruit), the Sharks (also in Nelspruit) and the Free State Cheetahs (in Bloemfontein) and saw them move up to second place on the standings.

However, the loss to Griquas saw the Pumas drop down to third on the points table, after managing only a losing bonus point walking away with a single point from the match.

Coach Jimmy Stonehouse said it was back to the drawing-board, before they take on the Golden Lions in Johannesburg this coming Friday.

"We gave away to many penalties and Griquas capitalised on it," Stonehouse said of his team's loss in Kimberley.

"We will regroup this week and focus on the Lions.

"It is going to be a big challenge facing them at home."
