Bulls star gets green light for semis after red card is rescinded

NEWS: The Bulls received a boost ahead of their Currie Cup semifinal against the Cheetahs with the news that Elrigh Louw's red card has been rescinded.

Louw received a red card for a dangerous clear-out in his team's 27-31 defeat to the Cheetahs in the Round 14 clash at Loftus Versfeld last weekend.

The incident wasn't initially spotted by referee Adriaan 'AJ' Jacobs. However, after replays and a discussion with TMO Aimee Barrett-Theron, Jacobs decided to give Louw his marching orders.

However, the red card has now been downgraded to a yellow after a disciplinary hearing ahead of this weekend's play-offs.

"Elrigh Louw has had his red card rescinded, which was issued in Round 14 of the 2023 Currie Cup campaign," said a statement from the Bulls.

"The red has now been replaced with a yellow card after a hearing was held - earlier in the week - with the player and representatives appearing before an SA Rugby committee.

"Louw was shown red at minute 37 of the clash against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday.

"He is [now] subsequently available for selection for this weekend’s semifinal clash, against the same team, which will be played in Bloemfontein on Saturday 17, June 2023."

The Bulls and Cheetahs will meet in Saturday's first semifinal. The second semifinal is in Durban between the Sharks and the Pumas.
