Griquas clash will be 'personal' for WP players

SPOTLIGHT: It seems Western Province are still hurting after their last meeting with Griquas.

Jerome Paarwater's team will be Kimberley on Friday for a Round Four Currie Cup fixture intent on getting some revenge over their opponents.

In last year's tournament, WP suffered a 28-30 defeat at home to Griquas before being thumped 25-46 in Kimberley.

"We got a quite a different squad from the one that last played up there," said Western Province lock David Meihuizen.

"I think about half the team that is going to be playing this week were there for the last defeat and a lot of us are taking it very personally.

"It is a game that we remember with a bad taste in our mouths and we want to make sure that we go up there and rectify the wrongs.

"Obviously, we know it’s going to be an uphill battle. It always is when you play them at home, but for a lot of us, it is personal.

"We are coming there and we are going to make it personal from the start."

Meihuizen knows that his team will have to start well against a side determined to cause another upset.

"With a team like that everything depends on how we start," Meihuizen explained.

"We are going up there and we want to punch first.

"We want to make sure that we stamp our authority off the bat.

"We know that if you give a team like this an inch, they are going to run with it, especially the start. We want to go up there and make sure right from the go that we are clinical, effective and dominant.

"We will make sure for that we are switched on and ready to go in that first 10 minutes."
