Report: Specman to swap Griquas for BlitzBoks

NEWS: The Griquas will be very busy during the off-season as they not only seek a new forwards coach but also have to find a replacement for X-factor wing Rosko Specman.

According to various media reports, the Springbok, with one Test cap, might not ply his trade in Kimberley next season.

Last week, the Daily Maverick reported that Specman has been made an offer to return to the BlitzBoks.

However,  he told the publication he still has to decide his future.

"I don’t know where I’m going next," Specman told the Daily Maverick.

"The South Africa Sevens made me an offer, but I must still decide if I want to go back."

Meanwhile, Griquas confirmed that Barend Pieterse will relinquish his role as forwards coach.

Pieterse joined the Griquas in 2021 and has decided to move back to Port Elizabeth to be closer to his family.

The 44-year-old was part of the coaching team that led Griquas to last season's Currie Cup final.

Commenting on his departure, Griquas head coach Pieter Bergh said: "In the last two seasons Barend did amazing work with our forwards and he is an enormous loss for the Griquas.

"His unbelievable work ethic, passion and integrity were a great example for everyone here.

"We understand that it could not have always been easy for him without his family here in Kimberley and we wish him and his family just the best and all the happiness on their road ahead."

Pieterse said: "I would like to thank the whole Griquas coaching staff, players, admin staff and ground staff for the past two years.

"I had an amazing time at the Griquas but unfortunately it has come to an end.

"To all the supporters, a special thanks as well and sorry we couldn't pull it through like we wanted to.

"I will look back at these two years and the best coaching environment I have ever worked in and will be a Griqua at heart forever."
