VIDEO: Bulls coaching situation 'as clear as mud'

WATCH as Blue Bulls Currie Cup coach Pote Human attempts to clear up the confusion surrounding the appointment of a new Super Rugby mentor.

Human, speaking after his team's heartbreaking 32-35 extra-time loss to Western Province in the Currie Cup semifinal at Newlands at the weekend, confirmed that he would like to take up the vacancy - created by the departure of John Mitchell to join up with Eddie Jones on the England panel.

As Human pointed out, rumours abound - with numerous names of candidates on a 'shortlist'.

However, a number of those have already made themselves 'unavailable' - including the likes of John Dobson (Western Province); Jimmy Stonehouse (Pumas), Fourie du Preez (Bulls) and Swys de Bruin (Lions).

In recent weeks the grapevine - especially in the wake of last week's revelation that early frontrunner Jimmy Stonehouse is out of the race - suggested that Victor Matfield emerged is he new favourite.

However, Human admitted he would also be available ... if approached.

"It will be a real honour to coach the Bulls' Super Rugby side," Human said, adding: "But that is not for me to decide."

"It is a great bunch of players and we love each other.

"They played for me and I work for them. I treat them like my own kids, so it would be an awesome experience and privilege to coach the Super Rugby side."

Asked by @rugby365com if his name was indeed in the hat, he became evasive: "I don’t know."

Asked if he would like to put his name in the hat, Human said: "Ja, [but] there are so many rumours. So it is difficult."

The Blue Bulls Company is expected to reveal the process for appointing the new coach in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, the situation remains as clear as mud.
