Sharks 'tighten' up things against Lions

REACTION: The Sharks have been in fine form with only one Currie  Cup defeat en route to the semifinals.

The Sharks concluded the round-robin phase with a 41-11 win over the Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday.

The visitors scored seven tries to one - six of those coming from the backline, with wings Lwazi Mvovo and replacement, Leolin Zas, scoring a brace each.

Although there was only one try by the forwards, courtesy of hooker Akker van der Merwe, head coach Robert du Preez revealed the pack played an integral part and managed to set the platform from which the backs were able to play some devastating, winning rugby.

"The forwards set the foundation for us," coach Du Preez told reporters after the match.

"We were very patient in our maul drives and all in all, it was a good exercise for us. The boys certainly got their lungs tested up in Kimberley which was good.

"Everyone played well, even if there were a couple of tries we didn’t take, but I am very happy with the result,"

The result means that the Sharks will now host the Golden Lions at Kings Park Stadium on Saturday.

The Sharks head into the match as favourites having lost only to the Western Province this season, however, captain Louis Schreuder admitted with the unpredictability of the play-off phase there is not room for minor errors.

"There is always something to work on," Schreuder pointed out.

"We will have to tighten up on a few aspects of our game for the semi-final against the Lions and try to get those things right if we want to advance to the final,"
