No Armitage history
The Armitage brothers will miss out on a potential piece of European history this weekend, after Delon was ruled out of the Champions Cup Final against ASM Clermont Auvergne at Twickenham Stadium.
The RC Toulon fullback fractured his hand during the reigning champions' semifinal victory over Leinster in Marseille and will be out of action for a month.
He had his sights firmly set on joining brother Steffon in winning a third successive title.
No team has ever won three European Cups in a row and Delon and elder brother Steffon were on course with Mathieu Bastareaud, Bakkies Botha, Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Matt Giteau, Carl Hayman, Maxime Mermoz, Jean-Charles Orioli, Jocelino Suta and Seb Tillous-Borde to make it a hat-trick of wins against ASM Clermont Auvergne.
And the Armitage boys also had their eye on another record - overtaking Martin and Will Johnson to make it three wins for the same family.
The Leicester brothers were in the great Tigers team of 2001 and 2002 that won consecutive titles in Paris and Cardiff.
Last year Delon and Steffon joined them on two victories with RC Toulon's back-to-back victory over Saracens at the Millennium Stadium.
There have been seven sets of brothers who have tasted European Cup glory:
Philippe and Olivier Carbonneau (Toulouse 1996)
Jan and Bryn Cunningham (Ulster 1999)
Martin and Will Johnson (Leicester Tigers 2001, 2002)
Isitolo Maka (Toulouse 2005) and Finau Maka (Toulouse 2003, 2005)
Denis Fogarty (Munster 2006) and John Fogarty (Leinster 2009)
Rob Kearney (Leinster 2009, 2012) and Dave Kearney (Leinster 2012)
Delon and Steffon Armitage (RC Toulon 2013, 2014)
