Scarlets boss eyes clean sweep against Cheetahs

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel has labelled his side’s European Challenge Cup Round three tie with Cheetahs on Friday as “another massive game” as the Welsh region aim to hang on to the top spot in Pool B.

Scarlets have a 100 percent record in this season’s competition so far, following a 39-7 home rout of Bayonnais and 45-26 victory at the Cheetahs, and have followed those wins up with two more in the United Rugby Championship.

“We are seeing confidence and momentum on the back of the hard work we have put in,” said Peel.

“We have now won four of the last five games going back into Europe. The Cheetahs is another massive game for us, with us topping the pool.”

Skipper Jonathan Davies has called on his Scarlets side to push on, after they ground out a 28-22 triumph at Cardiff Rugby last weekend, six days after seeing off Dragons RFC 33-17 in Llanelli.

“It is always better coming in on the Monday after a win, but the hard work starts again looking forward to an important European period," the Wales centre said.

“It’s been a frustrating start to the season, but credit to the group, we have worked extremely hard and we got the rewards against Cardiff. The effort the boys put in was outstanding. It wasn’t picture-perfect, but pleasing what we were able to put out there.

“Our focus hasn’t changed all year – we want to win every game and be competitive every week. We are showing a bit of consistency and hopefully, we can string a few more wins together.”
