Galarza signs new deal with Gloucester

Galarza, capped 25 times by his country, joined the club ahead of the 2014-15 season from Premiership rivals Worcester Warriors and featured in the European Rugby Challenge Cup Final victory over Edinburgh in May.

Part of the Argentina Rugby World Cup 2015 squad that finished in fourth place, Galarza has seen many of his national team mates sign up for the new Argentinian Super Rugby franchise, but the second row has decided that his immediate future lies at Kingsholm.

Gloucester Director of Rugby, David Humphreys spoke this morning about the new contract for the 29-year-old lock.

"Mariano is a player who has made a massive impact on our squad with his personality, attitude and dedication to his work, and we are delighted that he has signed a long term deal with Gloucester.

"He has had to work incredibly hard to overcome a couple of injuries over the past 18 months, and was very unfortunate to be suspended at the World Cup. But we believe Mariano will play a big part in what we are trying to achieve at this club going forward."

Galarza himself told the club website that it was an easy decision to extend his stay at Gloucester.

"I'm really happy to have signed a new contract. I feel the club has done a lot for me last season and this – I've been injured twice and the rehab has been fantastic both times.

"I've been banned in the World Cup and the club has always supported me, so I feel that I owe a lot to the club. I think it's time to show to everyone what I can do on the field and to give something back after all they've done for me.

"I now feel really good physically, full of energy and I'm enjoying myself. I think I have my best years ahead of me and I'm very happy to be here at Gloucester for a few more years."
