London Irish land Brumbies prop

London Irish have added Fijian prop Jerry Yanuyanutawa from the Brumbies to their squad for the 2012/13 Aviva Premiership season.

The 27-year-old joins the squad from the Canberra-based Super Rugby side where he has been since 2010. He made the first of his three international appearances for Fiji against Samoa in this year’s Pacific Nations Cup and also represented Fiji at Under-21 level.

He is an extremely powerful and mobile prop forward who will add a further option to the London Irish front row. Yanuyanutawa originally started out as a back rower but was persuaded to play as a prop by England World Cup winner, Trevor Woodman, whilst he was with Sydney University.

London Irish Director of Rugby, Brian Smith said: “Jerry has a solid set piece game and is a fantastic ball carrier. He will give us another option up front which is crucial during a long and arduous season.”

Yanuyanutawa said: “I am looking forward to joining London Irish and challenging with the other props for a starting berth. The Aviva Premiership looks a very competitive competition which I am excited to be a part of.”
