Wasps star Eastmond out for the season

The 27-year-old - who was capped four times by England in rugby league before switching codes in 2011 - tore his Achilles tendon in last Sunday's 35-22 victory over Gloucester that kept the winners six points clear in the table.  

"Following the injury sustained against Gloucester, Eastmond has undergone routine surgery to repair his Achilles tendon which we are pleased to confirm went well, with no complications anticipated," read a statement from his club.

"Kyle is expected to be sidelined for six months, which will, unfortunately, rule him out of the remainder of Wasps' 2016/17 campaign."

Dai Young, Wasps director of rugby, conceded Eastmond - capped six times since coming over to rugby union - would be a big loss to the team especially as he had put a good run of form together of late.

"It's obviously really disappointing for Kyle that he will miss the rest of the season and I really feel for him," Young told the club website.

"It came at a time when he was really starting to find his feet in this side and get a good run of games under his belt.

"The good news is that the operation was as straightforward as it can be with this type of injury and that Kyle is expected to make a full recovery, hopefully being back ahead of the new season.

"Kyle will be a big loss for us as we go into this last part of the season."

Wasps, who lead last season's beaten finalists Exeter by six points with champions Saracens a further point adrift, are away to fourth-placed Bath on Saturday.
