Youngs calls for consistency

London Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young has tasked his side with showing a consistent 80-minute performance this weekend at Gloucester.

Wasps beat London Irish following a strong second-half showing last weekend, but Young believes his side are yet to show their true form over 80 minutes this season.

“We are showing glimpses of how good we could be but we haven’t had a consistent 80 minutes yet in any of the three games we’ve played. Hopefully last weekend’s win will give us that bit more confidence and belief.”

Young added that despite the progress being made by the team each week, there was plenty of work ahead.

“We know that we are not the finished article, that there are very good teams out there and that every game is going to be difficult. We’ve had a few encouraging performances but only one victory and there is a long season ahead in which we are going to have to keep improving.

“There is no area at this moment in time that we are totally satisfied with. Every area I think we can improve on and I think the players will feel the same as well. Some areas are going well for us and we are pleased with those aspects but we’ve got to keep working hard.”

Looking ahead to Gloucester this weekend, he added: “They are a strong physical side and we need to match them up front because they have an incredibly quick creative backline who will thrive off front-foot ball.”
