Tyrone Green decides his playing future

NEWS: Tyrone Green has made his decision on where he will ply his trade next season.

Green signed a contract extension with the Harlequins, the club announced on Wednesday.

The electric fullback, who can be deployed on the wing, will continue to entertain The Stoop faithful for seasons to come after signing fresh terms with the club.

Currently in in his fifth season in South-West London, Green has amassed 78 appearances in the famous quarters and crossed the whitewash on 25 occasions.

A product of the prestigious Jeppe High School, Green cut his cloth in Super Rugby with the Johannesburg based Lions prior to signing with Harlequins ahead of a memorable 2020/21 campaign.

In his maiden year at the club, the now 26-year-old made 22 appearances and scored eight tries as Harlequins mounted a title charge for the ages to lift their second Premiership trophy at Twickenham Stadium after beating Exeter Chiefs 40-38.

One of Green's most memorable and iconic moments in a Quins shirt would come in the 2023/24 season as he soared through the air at full stretch to collect Marcus Smith's pinpoint cross-field kick and score against Newcastle Falcons.

A try that wowed those at The Stoop and across the wider rugby world, deservedly earning the 2023/24 Premiership Try of the Season award.

"It's good to put pen to paper. I'm happy here, so it was an easy decision. The boys are great, and my family is settled – it feels like a second home," said Green.

Speaking on the impact of the the club's supporters, he added: "Harlequins supporters are die-hard fans and running out in front of them is always an amazing feeling.

"The stadium is always packed out and they create such a noise. It gives you such a buzz and a boost as a player when you're about to start the match."

Head coach, Danny Wilson added: "Tyrone is an outstanding player who gives everything he has to the shirt, every time he steps out on the pitch.

"We've all seen he's an unbelievable finisher and such a threat with the ball in hand. His commitment in defence and work rate off the ball is second to none as well, making him one of the top fullbacks in the Premiership.

"We're all delighted Tyrone has committed his future to the club."
