Dragons lock wins court case

Wales lock Ian Gough had his conviction for assaulting his glamour model ex-girlfriend overturned by a south London court.

The Newport Gwent Dragons lock, capped 64 times by Wales, was found guilty last year of grabbing and pushing former Miss Wales Sophia Cahill outside her home shortly after she became engaged to another man.

He was ordered to pay £2,130 (€2,946, US$3,162) fines and costs.

But judicial official Jonathan Davies told an appeal hearing at Croydon Crown Court that there was "no reasonable prospect" of conviction after hearing two days of previously undisclosed evidence.

Gough, 38, retired in September 2013, only to return to the Dragons in May last year.

His other former clubs include the Ospreys and London Irish.
