Rea and Fonotia in hot water
NEWS: A Disciplinary Panel will meet in Edinburgh on Wednesday to consider the red-card decision against flank Matthew Rea of Ulster which occurred against Connacht on Friday.
The incident occurred in the 41st minute of the Pro14 Round 6 fixture at Kingspan Stadium (Belfast) when referee Andrew Brace deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against Connacht replacement Cian Kelleher
The referee showed the player a red card under Law 9.17 – Dangerous Tackling. A player must not tackle, charge, pull, push or grasp an opponent whose feet are off the ground.
The player will face a Disciplinary Panel via video conference, the panel will comprise of Pamela Woodman (Chair), Kathrine Mackie and Ian Douglas (all Scotland).
Meanwhile, a Disciplinary Panel will meet in Dublin on Tuesday to consider the Citing Complaint made against Kieron Fonotia of Scarlets for an alleged incident which occurred against Ospreys on Saturday.
The player has been reported by the Citing Commissioner in charge for alleged infringement of Law 9.12 – A player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone.
Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, biting, punching, contact with the eye or eye area, striking with any part of the arm (including stiff-arm tackles), shoulder, head or knee(s), stamping, trampling, tripping or kicking.
The player will face a Disciplinary Panel via video conference, the panel will comprise of Michael Coghlan (Chair), Kim Moloney and George Spotswood (all Ireland).
