Scarlets' Owen suspended

Scarlets received mixed news following the disciplinary hearings of Rob McCusker and Gareth Owen in Dublin on Wednesday.

The duo appeared before David Martin (Chairman), George Spotswood and Tommy Dalton (all Ireland) after they were red carded during the Pro12 Boxing Day clash with Ospreys.

McCusker’s offence, contrary to Law 10.4(b), was determined to be at the lower end of the relevant scale of seriousness, and the Committee held that in the particular circumstances of this case, that no further sanction should apply, so the he is free to resume playing.

Owen, however, was not so fortunate as his act, under Law 10.4(i), warranted a sanction with a mid-range entry point. The Committee, having taken into account all mitigating factors, and in the absence of any aggravating factors, imposed a three-week suspension, which expires at on Wednesday, January 17.
