Scarlets sign Grand Slam-winning duo

Llandovery product Dafydd Hughes got the Six Nations Championship winning campaign underway in style for Wales with a try in the opening encounter against Ireland whilst Felinfoel's Shaun Evans crossed the whitewash on three occasions scoring against Scotland, England and Italy.

20-year-old hooker Hughes, from Llandovery, was first capped by Wales at U16 level after impressive performances for the region's age grade side before progressing on to U18 level and this season's victorious U20 squad. 

He started playing rugby at an early age with the Junior Drovers and continued his development at Llandovery College having been awarded the prestigious Carwyn James Scholarship.

The young hooker made 22 appearances for the senior Drovers during 2015-16 campaign, scoring three tries, and featured in the SWALEC Cup victory over fellow Scarlets side Carmarthen Quins.

Former Bryngwyn Comprehensive pupil Shaun Evans had an impressive start to his international career named Man of the Match on his Wales U16 debut against the United States.

The 19-year-old flank went on to represent Wales and Scarlets at U18 level before being awarded with a place in Wales U20 squad for this year's Six Nations campaign.

Commenting on the news Jon Daniels, Scarlets General Manager of Rugby, said: "We are delighted to confirm that both Dafydd and Shaun have signed their first professional contracts with us here at the Scarlets. 

"They both enjoyed a very successful Six Nations campaign and will take confidence into the forthcoming World Championships.

"We have a great relationship with our feeder club partners that allows young players like Shaun and Dafydd to continue their rugby development. 

"We would like to wish them both the best of luck as they head to the Rugby World Championships, to be held in Manchester, with Wales U20 this June.”
