VIDEO: Jake gives Lions some sage 'advice' ahead of Trans-Jukskei derby

The Lions may have struggled to find their winning formula earlier in the year, but Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White they may just have rediscovered their blueprint for success.

Having moved away from the all-out attacking style that took them to three successive Super Rugby finals and saw them dominate the domestic scene, the Ellis Park-based outfit has slipped down the South African pecking order in recent years.

White believes they could regain the form and attacking threats that made them such a dangerous team during Johan Ackermann's coaching rein.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Trans-Jukskei derby at Ellis Park on Saturday, White said the Lions started to show their potential in the heartbreaking (37-39) loss to the Stormers last week.

"The one aspect where they probably shot themselves in the foot - in the last few games and competitions - was that they just didn't score enough points," the Bulls boss said.

"That [last week against the Stormers] was a good performance.

"The Lions team under Johan Ackermann would have scored 30 to 40 points.

"They had the ability to score lots of points.

"That is why it was so good for this team to score some tries [five against the Stormers].

"They probably haven't gone to that DNA, where they scored lots of points.

"They showed last week they can [still do that], so maybe that was the tipping point for them to get some confidence and start scoring some points."

White also praised the Lions' teenage flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse for his assured performance last week.

"He looked the part, with great offloads and the way he ran the game."

He added that it appears the Lions have now found some way in which they can score points again.

"There is no reason why they won't have a full crack at scoring some points against us."
