Etzebeth provides update on shoulder injury

NEWS: Springbok superstar Eben Etzebeth believes he will be fit for the start of this year's Rugby Championship in July.

Etzebeth suffered a shoulder injury in the Sharks' 50-35 win over Munster in a Champions Cup Round of 16 clash on April 1.

At the time, it was said that he could be out of action for up to 16 weeks, but the Bok provided a postive update.

"I'm aiming to be ready for the Rugby Championship, but then everything will have to go well, which I believe will happen," Etzebeth told Rapport newspaper.

The Boks will begin their Rugby Championship campaign against the Wallabies on July 8 in Pretoria.

They will then travel to New Zealand to face the All Blacks in Auckland on July 15. They will finish their campaign against Argentina in Johannesburg on July 29.

The news on Etzebeth will be a boost for the Bok coaches as a few big names have suffered injuries recently.

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi suffered a knee injury in the Sharks' final URC league game against Munster on Saturday.

The Durban side are waiting for news from the medical team to determine the extent of his injury.

Springbok veteran Frans Steyn will be out of action for a couple of months with a knee injury he suffered in a Currie Cup game in late March.
