Who will be the stars of Dubai?

The opening round of the World Rugby Sevens Series and the first of 10 rounds before the sport makes its debut at the Olympic Games in Rio sees us travel to Dubai.

To get you in the mood here are seven players, for obvious reasons, who we believe will have an impact on Friday and Saturday and offer up some early festive gifts for their teammates and fans.

Seabelo Senatla, South Africa:

Seabelo Senatla scored 47 tries last season, finishing as the leading try scorer by eight tries.

A nominee for the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, Senatla stole the show in the early stages as South Africa took an early lead after winning the Dubai and South Africa Sevens tournaments.

The scorer of perhaps the try of the season in last year's Dubai Final against Australia, Senatla has bags of pace and is a key part to Neil Powell's side's success.

Scott Curry, New Zealand:

Sir Gordon Tietjens' new captain following DJ Forbes reign will lead the All Blacks Sevens side on their road to Rio, beginning in Dubai.

With some old familiar names returning to the side, and the likes of Sonny Bill Williams and Ardie Savea set to play across the season, Curry will lead them all from the front.

Having secured qualification for Rio last season, Curry was at the forefront of all things good about New Zealand's season and will undoubtedly thrive under the pressure that will come as the 13-times series winner's captain.

Jerry Tuwai, Fiji:

Last year's sevens rookie of the year, Tuwai is another player who made an immediate impact for Ben Ryan.

Often the creator of tries for Fiji's wide men, Samisoni Viriviri and Savenaca Rawaca, Tuwai has been compared to having skills and a step similar to that of William Ryder and the great Waisale Serevi.

Will be integral to Fiji's success, but interesting to see how opposing coaches look to prevent Tuwai dictating play the way he did last season.

Phil Mack and Nathan Hirayama, Canada:

Both of these players will be returning from Rugby World Cup 2015 ready to head full throttle into the road to Rio.

Together, they only played in three tournaments last season due to 15-a-side commitments and injury, with Mack appearing in one and Hirayama two.

Together they are a formidable partnership with Mack's knowledge, experience and guile, while Hirayama applies the gloss with his mesmerising passing of the ball.

Werner Kok, South Africa:

Winner of the player of the tournament in Hong Kong, and the overall player of the year award at the World Rugby awards at the beginning of

November, Kok mixed speed, power and character in South Africa's back line to devastating effect.

A true sportsman saw Kok impress in only his second full season and develop into one of the best players that any coach would love to have at their disposal.

Will play a key role for South Africa this season as they search for only a second-ever World Series title and is possibly the first name on the teamsheet for the BlitzBoks.

Perry Baker, United States:

While Carlin Isles takes most of the headlines, last season saw another American speedster break onto the scene.

A nominee for sevens rookie of the year, Baker ended the season as an alternative option for coach Mike Friday, who seems to get the best out of anyone.

Ending the season with United States's first-ever Cup title was rightly one of the talking points of the season, and if Friday, Baker, Isles and some of the players who will return from Rugby World Cup 2015 such as Zack Test and Danny Barrett, can continue where they left off with an off-season of improvement, United States could be challenging the top four on the series this year.

A strong start in Dubai will be nothing less than expected now, however.

Dan Norton, England:

Norton will head into the new season as one of England's most-experienced players and sitting fourth in the all-time leading try scorer charts with only Santiago Gomez Cora, Ben Gollings and Collins Injera ahead of him.

With players from Wales, Scotland and England all aiming to put their hands up for a place in the Team Great Britain side set to compete in Rio, Norton will be looking to stay fit and get his game firing.

He is a very dangerous weapon for any side and thrives in the heat and speed of the Dubai Sevens.
