World Series Sevens 2019: Stats wrap

The Springbok Sevens team secured third place at the Paris Sevens after a convincing 40-7 win over Samoa in their Cup quarter-final on Sunday, but they then came unstuck in their semi-final against New Zealand before claiming bronze against the USA.

It was a somewhat typical end to their season. As the only team to top their pool at every round of games during the season, they often fell short on the second day. But in a season where many of their senior players had gone to pursue their XV-man dreams, the BlitzBoks can take heart from their performances.

Here are the players who made all the difference this year.

The title - both in Paris and overall - belonged to Fiji this season, though. They dazzled with the skills and power they've become known for. They entertained. They held their nerve. But the season was also competitive and, for the first time in many years, there was nearly a new champion as the USA pushed Fiji right to the final day.

It's hardly surprising considering the growth of the game with the advent of its Olympic stature. Here are the men who made the biggest impact overall.
