Lions hooker joins Sharks

Van der Merwe will join his new team on Monday and will give the Durban-based side more options in the No.2 spot.

Van der Merwe played his last game for the Lions in Saturday's Super Rugby Final against the Crusaders, which the Johannesburg outfit lost 17-25.

The 26-year-old made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions in 2014 and he has amassed 39 caps for the franchise.

He also has 18 appearances for the Golden Lions.

The Sharks face the Blue Bulls in Pretoria on Wednesday before they head to Johannesburg to take on the Golden Lions on Saturday.
