Crusaders' injury list grows ahead of Super Rugby

Loose forward Tom Sanders is the latest Crusaders' player to be added to the long-term injury list.

Sanders has had surgery on an acute fracture in his ankle, which he sustained during pre-season training.

The Crusaders medical team will monitor his recovery, with an anticipated recovery time of approximately three-four months.

The Crusaders are currently working through the process, and will advise in due course, who will join the squad to provide cover.

The news comes a day after Kieran Read was ruled out for up to four months with a back injury.

Read is expected to go under the knife on Saturday to have a prolapsed lumbar disc in his back fixed.

All Blacks Joe Moody (shoulder) and Owen Franks (Achilles) are both only expected to return in late May from their respective injuries.

Flyhalf Richie Mo'unga is still recovering from his second broken hand this year.

Meanwhile, Israel Dagg (knee) and Jordan Taufua (broken arm) should both be fully fit for the Crusaders' season opener against the Chiefs on February 24.
