Plumtree has an attacking mindset

Whitehead moved to the Sharks from the Stormers in 2012 and spent time playing under current Hurricanes assistant coach John Plumtree.

"Without a doubt, I played my best at the Sharks under [John] Plumtree, [Grant] Bashford and Hugh Reece-Edwards. I felt that they came in with an attacking mindset.

"I remember Hugh Reece-Edwards telling me 'the only way I will drop you, is if you don't back yourself. Do whatever you want to do on the field but just back yourself. If you want to put a grubber through on your own try line - if there is no sweeper behind - do it. If you hold back, I will drop you'.

"That's what I loved. I remember Riaan Viljoen [current Sunwolves fullback] was there with me and we looked at each other after the first video session and were like, 'we have come to the right place'.

"I really enjoyed playing under those guys, sort of a very open-minded view on attack," he said.
