Higginbotham charged with assaulting police

According to reports, Higginbotham allegedly assaulted an officer after his friend was arrested for urinating in public.

According to The Courier Mail, it is believed Higginbotham had dinner with his partner on Saturday before meeting up with friends in the inner city suburb renowned for its eateries and bars. One friend was taken to the Police Beat after allegedly urinating in public and Higginbotham is believed to have followed him there.

Channel 9 reported that police had pulled out a Taser during the incident.

A police report said a 30-year-old has been charged and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 21.

"The Queensland Rugby Union has today referred a matter to the ARU integrity unit concerning an incident involving Reds player, Scott Higginbotham in Brisbane last night [Saturday]," said ARU CEO Bill Pulver.

"The ARU integrity unit has subsequently launched an investigation into the incident today.

"As the matter is currently with Queensland Police, no further comment will be made at this time."
