Bok prop faces biting allegation
The Lions' World Cup-winning Springbok prop CJ van der Linde has been cited, following an allegation of biting in his team's 11-17 loss to the Western Force on Perth at the weekend.
Van der Linde is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m): Acts contrary to good sportsmanship.
According to the charge sheet he allegedly bit Force player Toby Lynn at the back of a ruck, while the players were involved in a clean out.
The incident occurred in the 10th minute of the match.
The referee, Garratt Williamson of New Zealand, referred the incident to the citing commissioner by issuing a white card following a complaint by Force captain David Pocock.
Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR judicial officer Mike Heron.
The match was Van der Linde's first start after coming back from a lengthy injury lay-off and should the allegation proved to be true, he will face a lengthy ban.
