Brumbies to 'get physical' with Chiefs

The Brumbies will travel to New Zealand on Friday expecting a massive physical onslaught from the Chiefs in their Round Two Super Rugby match.

Following their inmpressive start to the season, demolishing the Reds 47-3 and scxoring six tries to none, the Brumbies are riding a wave of momentum into the clash which is a rematch of the 2013 Super Rugby Final.

Their opponents will also be entering the game full of confidence after they managed to grind out a big win over domestic rivals the Blues away in Auckland.

Sonny Bill Williams made his much awaited return from the NRL and played a crucial role in two separate tries, which will no doubt please the Chiefs faithful.

The two sides met twice last year, with Brumbies running out comfortable victors 41-23 winners in their league encounter and the Brumbies winning 32-30 in a play-off nailbiter.

The Brumbies will unfortunately be without inspirational vice-captain David Pocock, who has been ruled out with a grade one Syndesmosis injury.

Brumbies captain Stephen Moore, who returned from a lengthy injury lay-off last week, was excited to get over to New Zealand and face the challenge.

I think they'll be really tough, they had a good win on the weekend," Moore said.

"They're always a very physical side, they play the game at pace right across the board.

"We know how big a challenge it is, but we're looking forward to getting over there and hopefully playing well again."

Brumbies flyhalf Matt Toomua will likely play a big role if they are to leave New Zealand with the victory on Friday.

Toomua will likely be tasked with helping to contain the powerful running of Williams but he's looking forward to the task.

"Getting him down is one thing and stopping his offloads is another, so we're really going to have work on that together as a team," Toomua said.

Toomua also said the team needed to work on their consistency away from home.

"In 2013 we broke our record for number of away wins but last year we slipped up a lot which probably cost us a home semifinal," Toomua said.

"We need to prepare mentally and not focus too much on being in a new city."

After the great start last weekend the Brumbies will be confident in turning their away form from last season around.
