'Canes duo back for Chiefs bash

The Hurricanes are expecting star duo Cory Jane and Victor Vito to return for the crucial clash with the Chiefs on Friday.

Coach Mark Hammett believes bot players should be fit for the match after shrugging off injuries in time to face the table-topping Chiefs in the final round of the regular season.

"They'll obviously have to get through this week's training but they're pretty keen and excited about getting back in the yellow," Hammett told Newstalk ZB.

The 'Canes still have an outside shot of reaching the playoffs, but the men from Wellington will need a victory over the Chiefs to stand a chance of finishing in the top six.

Jane picked up an injury just before the June break for the international matches and will be able to re-form the devastating back three for the 'Canes along with Julian Savea and Andre Taylor.

Vito is the hardman at the back of the Hurricanes' scrum and the forwards often suffer when he isn't in the pack. The tough No.8 has said his knee injury is a thing of the past.
