The incident occurred in the 72nd minute of the match between the Sharks and the Lions at Kings Park at the weekend – an encounter won 24-9 by the visitors.

At a ruck Claassens kicked out with his right foot and made contact with the arm of Lions No.8 Warren Whiteley.

The kick – according to the judicial officer – although making contact with the arm of Whiteley, was not forceful and caused no injury.

A citing commissioner warning may be issued for foul play incidents that are very close to, but – in his opinion – do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

In this case the referee for the match did not act upon the incident.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed a citing commissioner warning was appropriate.
