Delany to Highlanders' rescue?
Former Highlander Mike Delany could be about to join his old team, who are in desperate need of a new flyhalf for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.
The Highlander started the season with three strong contenders battling for the No.10 jersey in Colin Slade, Chris Noakes and Lima Sopoaga.
However, serious injuries to Slade and Sopoaga has left Noakes as the only recognised flyhalf in the Otago franchise's squad.
Delany has been playing for the Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan's Top League, but is expected to be released to help his former team.
The 29-year-old played Super Rugby last year for the Chiefs and has one Test cap for the All Blacks. He could offer welcome relief to Highlanders' coach Jamie Joseph.
Joseph told the New Zealand Herald that Delany is "the guy we're after".
"We've been talking to him [Delany] and he's keen to join us," he said.
"There's just a few wee contractual things to sort out. Hopefully we can sort it out soon."
