Hurricanes' South African gets date for his hearing

NEWS: The Hurricanes' South African wing Kobus van Wyk will have a few sleepless nights this week.

Van Wyk will have to wait till Thursday to head if he will be banned for foul play.

SANZAAR announced that Van Wyk will appear before a judicial committee hearing only on Thursday.

"Following initial consideration by the SANZAAR foul play review committee, Jacobus Van Wyk of the Hurricanes will appear at a judicial committee hearing after being cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend," a statement said.

Van Wyk is alleged to have contravened 9.18: A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground.

The incident involving Van Wyk happened during the match between the Hurricanes and Chiefs in Wellington last Friday.

The Judicial Committee for the Hearing will consist pf Stephen Hardy (Chairperson), Chris Smith and John Langford.

It will be held by video conference on Thursday, August 13.

Should he be banned, Van Wyk will miss the final match for the Hurricanes - when they face the Highlanders in a Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 10 encounter in Dunedin on Saturday.

Van Wyk has signed a contract to join Leicester Tigers in the Premiership after the conclusion of the competition this weekend.
