Jones to fill Kolbe's shoes?

Kolbe and Stormers' co-captain Juan de Jongh have featured in four Sevens World Series events for the Springbok Sevens this season and there is a possibility that they will be included in the BlitzBoks squad for the Olympic Games in August.

BlitzBoks coach Neil Powell is set to begin preparations for the event in Rio with a training camp some time in July and if called up, De Jongh and Kolbe could miss some of the Stormers' final league phase games as well as the play-offs if they qualify.

"We know that they are in the mix, but I can't say when and if that's going to happen...If they get called up, they get called up," said Stormers head coach Robbie Fleck at the team's High Performance Centre in Bellville.

"We will deal with it like we will deal with any situation. We will take it head on.

"There has been communication in terms of when they do go, but that is not for me to disclose. I am in the loop so if someone does get called up to that squad, I will know."

Fleck believes that the 22-year-old Jones has got the skill set to play fullback if Kolbe is unavailable to them.

"We certainly need to give him [Huw Jones] some game time there [fullback]...Huw's progression at No.15 has got to come through training and the time that he gets off the bench at the moment.

"We have given it a lot of thought. We also got Jaco Taute returning back from injury as well - he started training this week for us and is available for selection from next week. We are fortunate to be getting some guys back, who can play in the No.15 role.

"It would be crazy if we do not have plans in case Cheslin gets called up. We got to give these guys opportunities at the back there to get comfortable.

"We spoke about it after the game against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires. He [Jones] pretty much played every position in the backline and he certainly played some games there for the Under-21s two or three seasons ago.

"He is one of the most gifted footballers in our side. He is a natural, he is a great passer and he runs great lines," Fleck added.

The match against the Sunwolves in Singapore on Saturday will provide Fleck with a perfect opportunity to give Jones some much needed game time at fullback, whether it be off the bench or in the starting XV.
