Kings lose star flanks

To compound the Port Elizabeth team's woes, Cyril-John Velleman broke his thumb and will be going for scans today [Monday], but would be out for at least six weeks and possibly longer.

Cloete sustained the injury to his knee in the dying minutes of the game against the Blues.

"He [Cloete] is seeing the specialist today [Monday] for scans, should it be the medial cruciate ligament then he will be out for 12 weeks, if it is his anterior cruciate ligament, he will be out for nine months," said Davids.

Davids said Stefan Watermeyer was also being monitored after pulling a tendon in his foot, under his big toe, which had resulted in significant swelling. He was also being sent for scans.

Schalk Ferreira, who missed out on the Blues game with a hand injury, was recovering well, but would most likely not be available for the Cheetahs game.

After their match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, the Kings will play the Sharks in Durban before welcoming the Jaguares to Port Elizabeth. Super Rugby will then take a break for the June international window.
