He suffered the injuries in the fifth minute of his team's 29-16 win over the Stormers at Newlands at the weekend.

He'll be assessed by a knee specialist this week, who will decide on the course of treatment.

However, posterolateral corner injuries (PLC injuries) of the knee are injuries to a complex area of the knee – formed by the interaction of multiple structures.

Injuries to the posterolateral corner can be debilitating and often occur in combination with other ligamentous injuries to the knee.

Good news for the Lions is that fullback Andries Coetzee passed his concussion test on Monday, April 17, and have started his return to play protocol.

Coetzee suffered a concussion when he 'collided' with the shoulder of Stormers loose forward Nizaam Carr just before half-time and was replaced by Sylvain Mahuza.

The injury update from the Lions, also stated loose forward Ruan Ackermann have sustained some bruising to his acromioclavicular joint at the top of the left shoulder and will not take part in any contact training during the week.

Dillon Smit is set to make a return on April 24 from his hip injury.

The scrumhalf passed his strength test on Monday and will undergo his rehab program during the week.
