Mahuza joins Lions

Mahuza was instrumental in helping NWU-Pukke reach the Varsity Cup final and ultimately take the title home.

The 23-year-old made his first-class debut for the Leopards during the 2013 Currie Cup First Division season against the Falcons, playing off the bench and scoring his first try within ten minutes of appearing.

He then started five matches for the Potchefstroom-based side during the 2014 Currie Cup Qualifying tournament and went on to become the joint top try-scorer, alongside fellow wing Luther  Obi, with 10 tries apiece.

Mahuza headed to Port Elizabeth in 2015 and started training with Eastern Province Kings, following a dispute about the validity of his contract with the Leopards.

He then officially joined Robbi Kempson's side, but his stay was shortlived and Mahuza left after just one season with the Kings prior to the 2016 Super Rugby season.

“I don’t have words the describe how I feel," said Mahuza on his new deal.

"I am just so thankful for the opportunity to join the Lions and I will make the most of this chance that has come my way.

"I just have to mention the NWU-Puk as they were the cornerstone of my career up to now - I didn’t have any resources to build a future and the Puk made everything possible.

"They developed me and gave me the skills that I currently have."

Mahuza will start for the Lions at fullback against the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup Qualifying round at Alberton Rugby Club on Saturday.
